After having successfully competing in a tour of friendly matches in 2014, Bayern Munich will be returning to the United States this summer. With the “Audi Summer Tour 2016“, the German ‘futbol’ champions will rise again from the 25th of July to the 4th of August, as a part of their pre-season in the United States. This will be the first time the Bavarian club is participating in the “International Champions Cup” (ICC) as they face three of their major European rivals.
On July 27th, Audi’s FC Bayern Munich will compete against AC Milan in the “Audi Football Summit Chicago” at Soldier Field Stadium.
Three days later, on July 30th, FC Bayern Munich will face their rivals from the end of the 2009/10 Champions League, Inter Milan. This highly anticipated match will be played at the Charlotte, North Carolina Bank of America Stadium. This is the home of the NFL Super Bowl finalists, Carolina Panthers, who are graciously allowing the two champion teams the space needed to compete once again.
This incredible tour ends in the Big Apple at the “Audi Football Summit New York“. It will be here where fans can watch the match between FC Bayern Munich and Real Madrid on August 3rd, an event that is guaranteed to gain worldwide attention from fans of both futbol clubs.
Bayern Munich CE Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who also happens to be an ECA chairman, is delighted by this tour. Especially for followers in the US who don’t often get the opportunity to see champion soccer matches live. He is quoted as saying: “Since we have our office in New York, we know that more and more people are interested in soccer there. So I’m glad that in July, as in 2014, we’ll get to introduce our team to the US. ”
Rummenigge continued: “The US is an important market in our strategy to expand internationally. The Audi Summer Tour has become a key factor for our business and helps us in our goal, to promote the brand FC Bayern Munich.” He goes on to discuss the tournament specifically;
“The International Champions Cup (ICC) is an international tournament preparation and was opened in 2013 in the United States. The tournament, in which large teams participate, has also been played in China and Australia since 2015 and brought almost 1 million fans to the stadiums last year. Altogether 15 teams participated in the last tournament, they played their matches in 18 cities in 4 different continents. Reigning as champions in China and Australia is Real Madrid, while in North America last summer, the winning team was Paris Saint-Germain.”
Although he doesn’t admit it, it is safe to assume that Rummenigge is hoping for Audi’s FC Bayern Munich to reign supreme in the US championship games this summer. But win or lose, it is going to be amazing to see all of the global rivals as they go head to head in the states.
